Our newest Szergej is none else than the very first model of the M62 series: engine no. M62-001. The “big steel from Luhansk” is available in two designs, one with the original, MÁV labels, and one with the MÁV Start paint scheme made for the M62’s 50th anniversary.
Our model is the first specimen of the engine developed for MÁV by Voroshilovgrad Locomotive Works. The engine was considered modern for it’s time. It was one of MÁV’s prides, no wonder it was renovated for it’s 50th birthday. Or so it was planned, because even though it’s in appropriate condition now, it’s engine wasn’t finished on time for the anniversary ceremony, so it had to be towed to the Hungarian Railway History Park for the celebration.
The modification of the M62-001:
Our model’s base is the M62 engine of Gützold or Roco in H0 scale. These models however don’t resemble the early Szergejs, because they have ribs in the vicinity of the cabins. Because of that, first we had to remove these ribs, and only after that could we apply the authentic paintwork and lettering.
